A Very Generous God

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

I'm sharing another sermon today that will be aired this coming Sunday for the local congregation in which I serve. The scripture is below followed by the video. I hope you find it meaningful, and I pray you know God's great and generous love for you!

Scripture Text:

Matthew 20:1-16 The Laborers in the Vineyard

‘For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard.

When he went out about nine o’clock, he saw others standing idle in the market-place; and he said to them, “You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.” So they went.

When he went out again about noon and about three o’clock, he did the same. And about five o’clock he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, “Why are you standing here idle all day?” They said to him, “Because no one has hired us.” He said to them, “You also go into the vineyard.”

When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, “Call the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.”

When those hired about five o’clock came, each of them received the usual daily wage. Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received the usual daily wage. And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, saying, “These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.”

But he replied to one of them, “Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?” So the last will be first, and the first will be last.’

Without mincing words: The Mark XX is a better watch than link the Mark XVIII we've had since 2016. And hey, at $6,150 on a bracelet ($5,250 on a strap) – $750 more than link the old Mark XVIII – it better be. Most of the changes are subtle, but together, they make for a watch that's mechanically superior and looks (and wears) more link refined. But is that enough?

Cartier is introducing a larger size to the Santos-Dumont that delivers a very similar look, albeit it with a slightly increased, but not too much thicker, case. And at the heart of these three watches is a great hand-wound mechanical movement that many readers probably already know. link The new Santos-Dumont XL measures link 46.6mm link x 33.9mm with a thickness of 7.5mm. By contrast, the larger of the two quartz models introduced last year was 43.5mm x 31.4mm, with a thickness of 7.3mm.

It's a watch that's unmistakably authentic to its period of production, dripping with old-school, all-gold excess and the most innovative Swiss timekeeping solution of its era ticking link inside. Plus, bonus points for the presence of a "destro" crown and the bright red six o'clock link date aperture. If you can't tell, I honestly can't get enough of this Constellation. What about you? link Take a closer look, right here.
